Winds of change are sweeping South Africa as the people of the country deliver a historic electoral verdict. The African National Congress has witnessed its worst election result since the end of apartheid. There has been a catastrophic drop in votes for the ANC in the 2024 general election. The ANC has received around 40% of the national vote and has lost its three-decade-old absolute majority. While it has been a humiliating drop in votes for the African National Congress, things seem to be worse for Cyril Ramaphosa who is eyeing a second term as South Africa's president. Several analysts say the ANC's dismal performance in the election could turn Ramaphosa into a scapegoat. Will Zuma demand Ramaphosa's ouster in exchange for coalition support?
