The Donghaean Byeolsingut is a traditional shamanistic ritual performed in fishing villages along Korea's East Coast to honor the village's guardian deity. This ritual aims to bring peace, well-being, prosperity, fertility, and ensure the safety of sailors. The music is distinguished by its dynamic percussion accompaniment, featuring intricate rhythmic cycles and a strong element of improvisation. In this video, we present the Puneori rhythm, known as the overture to all rituals, accompanying dance, and one of the most iconic rhythms used throughout the performance.
