We've used kayaks, canoes, and small sailboats in the summers, but they are a hassle to load up for one adult and more importantly, hard to swim off of and a bit tippy or small. I finally realized that a raft might be great because it can be deflated and fit INSIDE our minivan or trunk of our car. And in town, I could strap it on the top.

So we picked this Seahawk 4 and it's been what I expected. I can strap it on the top inflated as long as I go less than about 35MPH. It holds two kids and two adults, although two kids and one adult leaves enough room to really stretch out. My kids can swim off it, climbing in and out with the grab line. It has three baffles for safety and nice ores. It rows well. It is of course slower than a canoe or kayak. Once inflated it's easy to store and then add a little air and take it out on the water. It is also good for fishing and I guess swill take a small trawling motor.

There are a few small things that could be better. I wish the ores were a little longer. The blow-up cushions are kind of hard to keep still and could use a handle. The hand pump for inflating does take a bit of time and effort if you're starting from scratch. An electric pump would probably be a wise purchase if one is doing a lot of complete deflating and inflating.

~~~ ABOUT ME ~~~
My wife and I are both educators. I focus on Educational Technology in K12 and Higher Education. We try and live a simple, sustainable, tech-savvy, and eco-friendly lifestyle in a medium town in Vermont, USA.
We focus our middle-class income on education, nature, healthy food, and community. We try and create a family environment with very little commercial-laden media, while also using high tech and high-quality media to teach our kids and be entertained. We use a lot of streaming services and don’t have Cable TV. Striving for these goals involves a lot of “debate” between my wife and I. She’s in charge of keeping me from exposing the family to too much technology/media exploration and study. I’m in charge of pushing to understand and learn about how to use technology’s immense power for good and beat our kid’s friends to exposer and education about media, games, YouTube, etc.
We live in a medium-sized town, in an old medium-sized house, on a medium-income. For those from afar, Vermont is located in the northeast part of the United States above New York City. Every year we have Summer’s heat and humidity, Fall’s colorful leaves, Winter’s snow, ice, freezing rain, hail, sleet, flurries, nor’easters, and freezing drizzle, followed by Spring’s melt mud madness. We are surrounded by trees, rivers, lakes, fields, and mountains. Vermont is known for its high-quality cheeses and Maple syrup, a tasty sugar liquid made from boiling down the sap that runs inside Maple trees when they are getting ready to make new leaves in the Spring.
