More and more people what to record audio on their computer, but often the sound quality can be improved by using a tube preamp.

While in the past I did review the bigger brother of this preamp, the Behringer MIC 500 has an integrated USB audio interface, while the MIC 100 is only the preamp.

If you already own an audio interface but the mic input is not strong enough to handle certain mic, or you want to improve the audio by adding a tube, the tube ultragain can be a useful budget option.

Some dynamic microphones can be more demanding on the preamps in your audio interface, and by using a separate preamp to amplify the signal before recording it the results can be improved.

While the Behringer certainly is not a high-end device, if you properly it can be a nice addition to your setup and help get more out of your recordings.

For beginners, pure USB mics are the easiest to use, but XLR gear has the advantage that you can mix and match different pieces of equipment.

Overall a nice little preamp, that can be easily put before your audio interface.
