Let’s talk about administering IV push medications! 💉🩺

IV Push is a route in which medications can be administered by syringe through an intravenous line.

Medications are either reconstituted (mixed) or simply drawn up from a vial or ampule. They are then administered via IV push.

⭐🧠REMEMBER:
-IV push rates MUST be checked prior to administration
-Flush before and after administration
-Flush routinely to maintain a patent line (usually there will be an order on the eMAR for this!)
-Flush at the SAME RATE as the initial IV push rate (remember that there is medication still in the connector loop!)
“Scrub the hub” prior to administration to prevent infection
-To dilute appropriately & as needed

⚠️🚨Name a common medication given via IV infusion which you should NEVER give IV push!
