This is a quick time-lapse film I shot in April 2007 at Swarkeston Lock on the Trent and Mersey Canal in Derbyshire.

Watch as two narrow boats use the locks.
The real time that elapses between the boats entering the lock chamber to exiting it is 10 minutes.
The sequence is made from 496 photographs, shots were taken once per second.

Swarkestone Lock is part of the Trent and Mersey canal system between Willington and Stenson.

Here at Swarkestone was where the Derby Canal originally connected up with the Trent and Mersey canal. There are plans in place to restore this waterway through Derby which should become reality in just a few years from now. For more details on the Derby Canal see thier website :
