The Pan America is a TOURING BIKE that just so happens to be able to handle off-road situations! My previous bikes were all baggers! So this was my first run at an Adventure Bike! It requires three "T's" to take this bike off-road, Technique, Tires, and Talent...of which, I had NONE! I was on a stock 2022 ‪@harleydavidson‬Pan America, with standard touring tires, and riding some trails that went from mild to moderately challenging, including lots of fist-sized rocks, a few boulders, lots of mud ruts, some ramps and swells, and some pretty steep inclines and descents.
I feel like I brought a ‪@Boeing‬ 747 to a Drone fight! But it did pretty damn good! Overall, the bike performed exceptionally well for a 547 pound behemoth on street tread and a novice rider! The hills were NO PROBLEM at all! The cuts and turns were the toughest for this bike. (If I could learn J-Turns on this beast, I would be a LOT better off!...another video!) I noticed that every time I emerged from the woods, I saw another (smaller) bike zipping to the parking lot for refueling. Not me! With a 5+ gallon tank, I was able to cruise there (45 minute ride), ride all day, and cruise home, and still have enough fuel to not worry about it until the next day! I noticed that I got strange looks for having such an expensive bike that deep in the trenches, and that MOST other bikes trailered to the area.
That brings me to another GREAT thing about this bike was the fact that after a day of slamming branches, trudging through deep mud, and hauling ass up and down rocky terrain, I was able to comfortably ride home!
I'm not sure that I will push the bike into any deeper mud, or climb bigger rocks, because this is my "work vehicle" as well!
Overall, the Pan America lives up to its "Adventure" status!
If your wondering about the bags, I didn't go for the bulky, boxy style of bags that every other dual-sport bike of this size favors, instead I went for the soft-side Ogio (not an endorsement) saddle and top bags.
