Sweet Traditions is a film by Black Cat Candy Parlor that explores the art of making hard candy by hand. The film draws on the expertise of candy makers from around the United States and showcases the different pieces of confectionery history these candy makers uphold. Sweet Traditions asks whether our instant-gratification way of thinking about candy is in line with the tradition of confectionery as a whole while focusing on small shops and artisans rather than industry. It also shows parts of the learning process of candy making, documenting what it's like to learn a skill left behind in time.

I created this film as my final project for my documentary class, and it ended up being a much bigger, much cooler project than I had intended. I really enjoyed making this film, and the opportunity to talk to all of these amazing, unique candy makers has been second to none. I hope you enjoy watching the film as much as I've enjoyed making it. - Tatyana
