On October 21, 2020, the United States Space Force was redesignated as Space Operations Command (SpOC). Lieutenant General Stephen N. Whiting assumed command, officially transferring the SpOC from a U.S. Air Force major command to a U.S. Space Force field command.
The SECAF also redesignated the former SpOC at Vandenberg Space Force Base as the Space Operations Command West (SpOC West) on October 21, 2020. On December 6, SecAF Frank Kendall redesignated SpOC West as U.S. Space Forces – Space, a United States Space Force Component Field Command.
