The bill has already passed the House, where GOP leaders argue the measure is a necessary safeguard against fraud and a common-sense reform supported by a broad majority of voters. But its future in the Senate remains uncertain, with Republican leaders stopping short of committing to when — or how — the bill will reach the floor.

President Donald Trump weighed in Tuesday, framing voter ID requirements as essential to election integrity. “Who would not want voter ID? Only somebody that wants to cheat,” Trump said, accusing Democrats of opposing the measure for political reasons.
