A prayer for the planet in allegory.
The Earth as a young woman old made old before her time
by the ravages of so called "progress"

Shipwrecked

I watched the lines on her pretty face grow
before her time
I watched her weariness starting to show
before her time

I could have sworn she was not creased and worn
a moment ago she was childlike
but now she is torn and her babies are born
twisted and crippled and not right

I saw the shadows creep into her eyes before her time
I saw the clouds darken over her skies before her time

I watched her rivers turn grey with neglect
and never once looked for a suspect
I felt her soil become barren and cracked
and never once knew we where shipwrecked

I should have known as she stiffled a groan
these red hands are mine
this lovely child had turned into a crone
before her time

so my brothers and I all went down to the pub
and drank till the panic subsided
drowning our feminine sides in the tub
until her children were spited and blighted
stumbled on home with despair on our breath
to the goddess................
we tied her up and we fucked her to death
oh well that's progress
