The federal government has announced a significant 85% hike in house rental ceilings for federal employees, providing much-needed relief amid rising living costs. This decision, endorsed by the federal cabinet, will benefit employees across all grades, from Grade 1 to 22.
The move is part of a comprehensive review of government allowances, aiming to adjust compensation and keep up with inflationary pressures and market housing rates. With an estimated annual burden of Rs12 billion on the national exchequer, the government is taking a proactive approach to support its employees.
Additionally, the Ministry of Finance has unveiled the Federal Government Receipts and Payments Rules 2025, offering house building advances to federal employees. Staff members from Grade 1 to 16 can now access advances equivalent to 36 months of their basic salary, while officers in Grade 17 and above are eligible for advances equal to 24 months of their basic salary.
