Описание к видео EV Batteries last how long!? Expect 20 years.

We've all heard about high mileage Toyota's, Mercedes, Volvo's etc with their 'everlasting', 'run forever' engines. The fact is that only a tiny percentage of ICE powertrains make it above 200,000 miles without serious rebuilding and of course you can only guess how much has been spent on oil changes over those huge distances. In reality, the average age for scrapping a car in the UK is 17 years, and of course today these are by definition ICE powered. The data is clear on this, the average mileage a car in the UK gets scrapped at is 123, 359 miles. The most common reasons for scrapping a car are:
Engine issues
Gearbox issues
Excessive rust
Mould or water damage
Serious electrical issues
Collision damage

Note, the top two reasons are both drive train related.

So how do EVs compare? We have already seen EVs with mega-mileages featured on this channel and others but distance travelled is not the only test of durability...time is the other one and will take its toll as it always does.
The anti-EV crowd still maintain that the batteries will need replacing before the car goes to the scrapyard.

In this video I feature a report which suggests that EV batteries should still be delivering around 60%-70% of their original capacity after 20 years, comfortably beyond the average age a car (ICE) is scrapped. When that day comes for Ye Olde e-Niro this implies a real world range of 300 km (180 miles)...not bad for a cheap second car that can still do a job.
