Описание к видео Ableism: The Causes and Consequences of Disability Prejudice: Dr. Michelle R. Nario-Redmond

Dr. Nario-Redmond specializes in Disability Studies and the psychology of stereotyping and prejudice. During this event, she will provide an overview of research evidence on the many forms of prejudice disabled people face, along with the reasons that drive people to express their fears, curiosities, and good intentions in ways that perpetuate inequality and misunderstanding.
Disentangling the roots of disability prejudice, Dr. Nario-Redmond will then discuss specific strategies for combating distinct forms of ableism and the individual and coalitional approaches disabled people have used to resist discrimination and promote human rights.
Dr. Nario-Redmond is a Professor of Psychology and Professor of Biomedical Humanities at Hiram College in Ohio and recently edited the first comprehensive volume to be published that integrates social-scientific literature on the origins and manifestations of prejudice against disabled people.
