WE MET A TAUSUG BLADE MAKER IN BASILAN.

Originally from Sulu, Datu Halun Bada Asakil, a 65 year-old Tausug from Isabela City, Basilan, practices traditional metallurgical art. Datu Halun was a Tairan, Basilan native (now Lantawan Municipality) His father, a local panday and mother, was a Jolo Sulu native. During the 1960's, they relocated to Garlayan, Tinggilan (now part of the Maluso Municipality), where they established a workshop and began a backyard industry that produced hundreds of bolo of various shapes daily.

Now, here in Basilan, Datu Halun Bada Asakil makes amazing blades in his home in Isabela City. It was such a wonderful experience hanging out with him, and learning about these traditional Tausug blades...

I also had a special blade given to me by a Tausug friend in Zamboanga City!

AND I HAVE JUST BEEN GRANTED THE TITLE OF "DATU KULAS", BY THE COUNCIL OF ROYAL DATUS FROM SULU!

Power On!
