Robotic systems have become quite common in manufacturing environments ranging from high-precision electronic component assembly, through automotive manufacturing. They require frequent checks for changes in alignment that can occur with routine use.

One robotic system developer employed pressure mapping technology while in the design phase of a new generation system, to evaluate the consistency of the robot’s actions. Design engineers placed sensors on the contact points of the robot, and were able to see high- and low-pressure points in the pick & place process. They used this data to make adjustments to the machine alignment, as needed.
