Osprey Heights | Canoeing & Hiking Halfway Lake Provincial Park

Описание к видео Osprey Heights | Canoeing & Hiking Halfway Lake Provincial Park

In this video, we embark on an adventure at Halfway Lake Provincial Park, located about 90km or 54 miles north of Sudbury, Ontario. Our journey begins with paddling under a highway and enjoying a leisurely stroll through a forest, leading to the more challenging part of our exploration. The park is situated alongside Highway 144, known for its scenic beauty but also its reputation for accidents due to its many curves and narrow shoulders. We appreciated the campground's privacy between sites, which added to our comfort. My daughter set up her hammock while I set up our spacious tent.
On the water, we enjoyed a view of the park's long sandy beach and followed Bailey Creek east under the highway to experience more of the park away from the crowds. The lake, divided by a long peninsula on which Highway 144 runs, gets its name from being situated halfway between a former logging area and the railway where logs were loaded.
The main highlight of our trip was hiking the Osprey Heights Trail, a 5 km or 3-mile loop leading to a lookout over Antrim Lake. The first section of the trail featured boardwalks and staircases to help us navigate the steep terrain. The park also offers other trails, such as Hawk Ridge Trail, which crosses the path of a tornado from 2002 and provides opportunities for interior camping.
We encountered a few fallen trees along the way but managed to get around or under them easily. As we climbed, my anticipation grew, and we finally reached the lookout over Antrim Lake, which, though nice, was a bit underwhelming. A quick look at a topo map indicated the highest point was a little further, so we continued climbing only to find that the dense forest obscured our view. Despite this, we enjoyed the interesting sights on the way back, including a granite wall.
Thank you for watching, and we hope you enjoyed the video.
