IDA LUPINO, TRIPLE THREAT: DIRECTOR, ACTOR, SCREENWRITER
Born in London, Lupino would become a force in front of the camera and the most prominent woman filmmaker in Hollywood during the 1950s. Often refusing bad roles, she was suspended from her Warner Bros. acting contract. This allowed her to work on her own scripts and directorial projects, becoming only the second woman to join the Director’s Guild. By the end of her career, she had been in nearly sixty films and had directed eight features and over a hundred television episodes in nearly every genre.
