What happened in the first 24 hours of Operation Barbarossa?

At 03:15, on June 22nd 1941, more than three million Axis troops, including 150 divisions and 600,000 vehicles had advanced along a 1,800-mile front.

German Army Group North, Center and South advanced rapidly. Army Group Center, led by Field Marshal Fedor von Bock, led the invasion with 1.3 million men, making the deepest penetrations. In the first 24 hours they captured multiple key positions and advanced up to 50 kilometers.
The Soviet Red Army, taken by surprise, suffered heavy casualties, with an estimated 150,000 soldiers killed, wounded or captured in the first 24 hours.
The operation aimed for a quick victory, but despite early successes, stubborn Soviet resistance and vast territory soon challenged German expectations.
