The independent counsel team investigating the Choi Soon-sil scandal has summoned Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong over bribery charges for the second time. Here’s more.

Samsung Electronics vice chairman Lee Jae-yong has been summoned for the second time for questioning by the independent counsel probing the Choi Soon-sil power abuse scandal on Monday morning, involving bribery charges.

[Soundbite] Lee Jae-yong(Samsung Electronics Vice Chair) : "I will faithfully tell the complete truth to the special prosecutors today as well."

Lee's appearance at the counsel is the second since his first questioning on January 12th. And it's also 25 days after the court dismissed his arrest warrant on January 19th. Since the warrant's rejection, investigators have been trying to prove the allegation that Lee gave bribes to President Park's jailed friend Choi Soon-sil. The counsel team suspects the presidential office provided benefits to Samsung in connection to defusing concerns over cross-shareholding. Prosecutors are also looking into speculations that the nation's top office discussed introducing an intermediate financial holding company with Samsung and also indirectly supported the stock market listing of Samsung BioLogics, an affiliate of the conglomerate. Two other officials at Samsung Electronics, President Park Sang-jin and executive director Hwang Sung-soo have also been called in for questioning on Monday morning as suspects. The officials are implicated in playing roles in Samsung giving special favors to Choi Soon-sil's daughter Chung Yoo-ra. The counsel team will quiz Lee Jae-yong and determine by this week whether to request an arrest warrant for the second time.
