This is the sixth episode of our series dedicated to the business of club football in collaboration with Portas Consulting, where we will be looking into the future of the Sporting Director role. This webinar will deep-dive into the role of a Sporting Director covering player recruitment, setting and implementing a long-term football strategy, and bridging the communication gap between the manager and the board.

The two panellists – Damien Comolli and Victor Orta Martinez – will share their vast experience having worked in top football clubs across Europe.

Bios:

Victor Orta Martinez is the current Director of Football at Leeds United since 2017 and in his role, he oversees the player recruitment process. During his tenure, Leeds have been promoted and retained its status in the Premier League.

Prior to his role at Leeds, he has held Sporting Director and Chief Scout positions at Middlesborough, Elche, Zenit St Petersburg, Sevilla and Real Valladolid. Victor started his career as a player agent and also has experience in journalism in his native country Spain, as a commentator for Eurosport Spain.

Damien Comolli is a French former football coach, scout and director of football. He has previously worked for AS Monaco, AS Saint-Étienne, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Fenerbahçe.

He has been president of Toulouse FC since 20 July 2020, who recently finished as Ligue 2 Champions achieving promotion to Ligue 1.

Comolli played as a youth team player at Monaco. In 1992, he began a three-year coaching job with Monaco, where he looked after the club's under-16 squads and won the state championship at that level. Comolli completed a law degree in 1995 and gained his French coaching licence.
