Navaratri, 2020: Day 5

On the 5th day of Navaratri, Vidushi Apoorva Krishna, Vidwan Sai Giridhar and I come to your Golu/Pooja with a firecracker- a Varnam composed by the greatest of the greats- the one and only Dr M Balamuralikrishna! This Varnam is an absolute dream for all three - vocalists, instrumentalists AND percussionists to perform. The specialty is that we don’t know what came to the composer first- the swarams or the lyrics, so beautifully intertwined the two are. This is a varnam to be practised everyday for pristine voice culture, the leaps and runs are sure to mould our voices for the better. After all, it comes from a legendary musician with the greatest voice culture!! This varnam contains one of the most special Charanams! Listen, enjoy!
Apoorva Krishna its one of the finest young violinists of current times and is a composer herself. Vid Sai Giridhar is one of the most sought after, senior Mridangists of today, and both are versatile and firecrackers of musicians in their own rights. Who better to sing this challenging Varnam with?
