Republic's contract allowed them to retain the film rights to Dick Tracy as long as they produced new episodes on a regular basis, and, like the original serial from 1937, "Dick Tracy Returns" proved successful enough to warrant them continuing the practice. A third 15-chapter serial, "Dick Tracy's G-Men," would follow in 1939, and "Dick Tracy Returns" itself would be rereleased to theaters in 1948. And unlike Republic's standard process of editing their serials into feature films for reissues, when DTR returned to theaters, it was in its entire, 15-chapter glory.
