This video deals with the great biography of the eminent doctor Radha Gobinda Kar ( রাধাগোবিন্দ কর ) who is popularly known as Dr. R G Kar ( ডাক্তার আর জি কর ). R. G. Kar Medical College and Hospital ( আর জি কর মেডিকেল কলেজ ও হাসপাতাল ) is the medical school and hospital located at Shyambazar in Kolkata, that was established by the doctor Radhagobinda Kar.

Doctor Radha Gobinda Kar was born on 23 August in 1850 at Howrah-Santragachhi, West Bengal. His father was the eminent physician named Durgadas Kar who was the founder of Midford Hospital in Dakha in British India. After studying in Hare School and Hindu School, he appeared in Entrance Examination , and was admitted to Calcutta Medical College to study medicine, but left one year after. In 1880, he was again admitted at the Calcutta Medical College. In 1983, he went to Scotland for higher study in medical science, and there received his medical degree from the University of Edinburgh.
Dr. R G Kar was deeply influenced by his father. Following his father’s footsteps, he wrote many books in Bengali language for the betterment of medical treatment in native language.
With the help of numerous other doctors, Doctor Radha Gobinda Kar founded the Calcutta School of Medicine on 18 October 1886. The school changed its name to the Calcutta Medical School in August 1887, and it became The Calcutta Medical School and College of Physicians and Surgeons of Bengal after amalgamating with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Bengal in 1904. In 1916, it was renamed Belgachhia Medical College. On 12 May 1948, after the demise of Radha Gobinda Kar, the College was renamed as R. G. Kar Medical College and Hospital. It claimed to have been the first non-governmental medical college established in Asia. It was founded to ensure self-sufficiency in medical education and services in the colonial era.
Dr. R G Kar left us on 19 December in 1918 at the age of 68 years.
