Society expects women to be a certain height, weight, caste, religion, skin color, education, background, skill and mindset to qualify to as a bride. When they don't meet that criteria, they are considered ineligible for their son. Are those expectations places on men of our time?

Wealthy families of 300 years ago found younger brides when they knew their sons were fully qualified in education, financial responsibility, physical strength, social standing and emotional bearing, only to have an heir to continue their son's title (name). This meant women and potential did not 'need' to bring much to the table. We don't place the same expectations on men of today, messing up the standards of a potential groom. But is it the same for women? And when the bride and groom don't meet the 'standard', do we give them time to work on it?
