A Long Journey of Healing - Father Michael Lapsley

Описание к видео A Long Journey of Healing - Father Michael Lapsley

This film is the story of a vocation, that of Father Michael Lapsley. Maimed for life, his injury became a source of life for the healing of the traumatised souls around the world.

Originally from New Zealand, and an Anglican priest since 1973 in "The Society of the Sacred Mission" (SSM), Father Michael was sent to South Africa after his ordination. From this moment on, he became involved in a growing struggle against apartheid. This regime rejected any civic, economic or social equality between persons of colour and white people. In the course of this struggle, he was the victim of an assassination attempt by letter-bomb in 1990, losing both his hands and the vision in his right eye.
During his convalescence, with the help of God and the support of many people around the world, he chose not to pursue vengeance, but rather to become victorious, capable of participating in the creation of the world of his dreams.
As a result, in 1998 he founded, in the same spirit as the “Truth and Reconciliation” Commission chaired by Archbishop Desmond Tutu, the Institute for Healing of Memories. It offers a refuge for the victims - and equally for the authors – of acts of violence, to the end that they can freely exchange their stories of hurt in workshops and thereby overcome their trauma. Today, Father Michael travels widely to promote this work of healing, both in Africa and in numerous other countries.

This film is made by the Chemin Neuf Community for the International Ecumenical Fraternity, 'Net for God'.
