On January 7, 2024, the Peace & Social Concerns Committee of the Friends Meeting of Washington hosted a conversation for member of the Meeting community with Palestinian-American author and community leader Laila El-Haddad, who has deep family roots in Gaza.
The conversation was moderated by JWE President Helena Cobban and introduced by P&SC Committee clerk Barbara Briggs, who noted that in November 2023 FMW as a whole had adopted a formal Minute calling for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza and had committed to having the FMW community learn more about the whole situation in Gaza and Israel.
