So... How to ride rocks and rocky terrain on dirt bikes! Rocky ground and gullies can be extremely challenging and exhausting to ride in, but also a lot of fun - the balance and bike control you develop will transfer across to all other facets of your dirt riding. A quick note - Remember gullies are usually restricted areas on public land. We ensure only minimal traffic on the private properties we use as they tend to be environmentally sensitive areas so we focus on minimal wheelspin.

BODY POSITIONING
Body positioning is critical to mastering rocks. The popularity of extreme enduro, endurocross and hard enduro events has led to cross training - trials skills blended with dirt riding on enduro bikes. This style of riding also lowers your centre of gravity. Usually the moment you start to have trouble in rocky terrain it is because of incorrect body positioning! Stay standing on the footpegs for as long as possible - Everything in extreme enduro terrain throws you off balance, so balancing lays a strong foundation for enduro skills. Trials riders can balance at a stand still for as long as they like, even with no hands on the bars. Cross training has a strong focus on being able to balance on your enduro bike, even at a stand still - this is a handy skill when you have minimal run up to your next obstacle. Balance also means you can spend more time standing on the pegs in tough terrain instead of sitting down, so you will have far more control of your dirt bike. Remember cross training applies trials techniques to your dirt riding skills.

Rocky gullies and rocks can be tough if you have short legs, but stay focused on balancing and you'll be surprised at how little you will need to dab your feet as you apply these techniques. Any jerky responses are likely to dislodge rocks and ensure a foot is needed on the ground. Ride too slow and the rocks will start to bounce you around too much. As a rocky gully opens up, you can pick up the speed accordingly. Pick your line carefully to ensure a smooth a path as possible.
STUCK IN A ROCKY GULLY?
You can wear yourself out very quickly when stuck in a creek bed. Cross training applies the same principles to enduro bike and the clutch becomes an extension of your thottle at both low and high speeds.
