This is Lecture 1 of Antenna Basics and Electromagnetic Theory series and describes about the antenna definitions, their transmitting and receiving antenna communication link structure and block diagram of broad categories or types of antennas mainly wire and aperture antennas with their subcategories. Further, the radiation mechanism by a linear wire antenna is discussed and calculated the basic radiation equation for antenna.
