A major political controversy has erupted in New Delhi over a press interaction by Afghanistan's acting Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, where women journalists were reportedly barred. Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra stated, 'This is the ultimate dishonour to the women of India that our government has participated in this, has been a willing participant, has used taxpayers money to fund this exercise where women journalists who have been asked to leave the room.' The incident, which took place at the Afghan Embassy, has drawn sharp criticism from opposition leaders, including Moitra and the Congress's Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who are questioning the government's tolerance of such misogyny on Indian soil. In response, the Ministry of External Affairs issued a clarification, stating it had no involvement in the event as it was organized by the Afghan side on its own embassy premises.
