What are Latter-day Saint "priesthood keys"??? Ep. 165

Описание к видео What are Latter-day Saint "priesthood keys"??? Ep. 165

We’ve spent a lot of time on this show talking about the “priesthood.” But, just because someone holds the priesthood does not mean that they are authorized to use that priesthood to do whatever they want. Certain priesthood acts require authorization from those who hold the priesthood “keys” over that act. In this episode, Dave talks more about what these priesthood keys are, and why they are important.

Notes:

— “The keys of the priesthood refer to the right to exercise power in the name of Jesus Christ or to preside over a priesthood function, quorum, or organizational division of the Church. Keys are necessary to maintain order and to see that the functions of the Church are performed in the proper time, place, and manner. They are given by the laying on of hands in an ordination or setting apart by a person who presides and who holds the appropriate keys at a higher level.” Source: https://bit.ly/3iH5zCt

— Even anciently early Christians seemed to have understood (at least in some form) this organization of priesthood keys. Ignatius, the bishop of the church at Antioch, wrote, “It is not lawful to baptize or give communion without the consent of the bishop. On the other hand, whatever has his approval is pleasing to God. Thus, whatever is done will be safe and valid.” Source: Letter to Smyrnaeans, ch. 8, J.R. Willis translation; https://bit.ly/36FRPoM
