Science includes collecting evidence and information from experiments to come to an understanding of the natural and social world. This scientific knowledge can be gained through observations and experiments. However, the term science encompasses a wide range of topics and studies that involve factors such as the growth of stripes on zebras or experiments with chemical reactions. Although there are a wide range of topics, science can be broken into three major branches: physical science, life science, and earth science.
Science describes an area of knowledge, typically about something in the physical world, that can be explained in terms of scientific observation or the scientific method. The scientific method is a discovery process that has evolved over several hundred years and can be summarized as follows:

a phenomenon in the physical world is observed
an explanation, or hypothesis, for the phenomenon is formed
the hypothesis is tested by means of objective, reproducible experiments
If the results of the experiments support the hypothesis, it becomes accepted as scientific theory. Later, if new information is found to contradict the hypothesis, it may be revised or abandoned in favor of a new hypothesis, which is then subjected to additional experiments.
Physicist: Physicists are responsible for creating and testing theories in physics. They often perform experiments and apply physics skills to creating scientific equipment.
Astronomer: Astronomers are scientists who study the universe outside of earth, including galaxies, planets and stars. Astronomers often use satellites to take photographs of space objects and then analyze photographs to learn more about the universe. They can also write computer programs and equations to better understand space phenomena.
Cosmologist: Cosmologists are scientists who study the origins of the universe, the relationship between space and time and other universal properties.
Meteorologist: Meteorologists are responsible for analyzing the weather and preparing weather forecasts. They may broadcast their weather forecasts on television news or online video.
Geologist: Geologists are scientists who study rocks and other solid parts of the earth and other planets. Geologists often study geology-related natural disasters like mudslides and earthquakes.
Environmental scientist: Environmental scientists are concerned with the earth's environment. They can use knowledge of earth science to come up with ways to protect the health of the earth and the health of humans.
