Dr Grace Kettyle | Rod and Cones, South West Acute Hospital

A ‘first’ in Europe for Medical Education students at South West Acute Hospital.

Thanks to our FY1 Dr Grace Kettyle based at South West Acute Hospital for her achievement in bringing ‘Smart Glasses’ technology to the South West Acute Hospital, providing first-class medical education to our medical students.

Dr Kettyle successfully pitched for 10,000 euro funding, alongside fellow doctors from Canada and Europe, at the European Association of Endoscopy Surgery Conference in Rome for a project using Smart Glasses technology created by Rods and Cones.

This is the first time these Rods and Cones smart glasses have been used to educate medical students across Europe. The glasses were worn by the operating surgeon in theatre and the view of the surgical field was broadcast live to our medical education suite giving students a bird's-eye view of the operating field.
