Talent is overrated! And the concept is often misused. We use lots of words for the talented: gifted, genius, prodigy, creative, etc. We call people "musically gifted" or "born gifted". We say they have "creative genius" or they're "physically gifted". We are impressed by people who are great at piano playing or violin playing, mathematics or chess, or football or basketball at an early age. We are impressed by precociousness!

But talent has downsides. Whether it tiger moms and sports dads, or inferiority complexes, this notion of talent can have a profound effect on us.
