https://outfm.org | https://tinyurl.com/y8whfw6f | U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered agents of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency or ICE to round-up those perceived to be immigrants. Targets including citizens born in the United States. With brutal tactics, including homicidal force, the President has authorized federal agents to be guided by perception, not fact. Often masked as a new-age gestapo, ICE agents brandishing advanced militarized weaponry, stalk U.S. citizens, refusing to identify themselves. Their actions have killed at least six people, including their most recent target, Renee Good.
On Tuesday, January 20th, this past week’s OUT-FM, chronicled to its listeners, the response not only of Minnesotans but also New Yorkers. Tuesdays broadcast was so-hosted and produced by Naomi Brussel and Stahimili Mapp, with additional production assistance by Bob Lederer and John Riley.
Here's the latest.
In a torrent of protest, the people of Minnesota, refuse to be silent vociferously responding to ICE violence, supported by President Trump, that has killed one of their own. Since January 7th’s murder of lesbian Renee Good by ICE agent Jonathan Ross, the intensity of ICE repression—by now 3,000 agents have invaded Minneapolis-St. Paul—has been matched by a ramping up of migrant defense, strong protests, and frequent street confrontations.
Additionally, more has emerged about the role Renee Good was playing at the time of her killing (Jonathan Ross shot her four times in the face and body through her car window). TRUTHOUT —a nonprofit news organization dedicated to reporting that is independent of corporate and political forces—reported that MICHELLE GROSS, who is president of the Minnesota-based COMMUNITY UNITED AGAINST POLICE BRUTALITY, who knew RENEE. GROSS detailed how GOOD was a volunteer in a network of neighborhood patrols including hundreds of community members organized to track, monitor and record ICE operations.
A week ago, OUT-FM’s coverage of the immediate aftermath of Good's murder featured Mira Altobell-Resendez and Jess Sundin, two Minnesota activists—both of whom are queer and part of a determined local populace relentless in its response to ICE violence.
A third guest, Jay W. Walker (Black and queer), organizes locally in New York City with Rise and Resist, which is a NONVIOLENT direct action group committed to opposing, disrupting, and defeating any government act that threatens democracy, equality, and civil liberties
Rising up are activists like Mira Altobell-Resendez is a non-binary Minnesotan fighting for legalization for all and an end to deportations with the Minnesota Immigrant Rights Action Committee.
Jess Sundin is a longtime community organizer active in the community response to the current massive, militarized ICE deployment in Minneapolis-St. Paul. She is a leader of Freedom Road Socialist Organization, an organizer with Twin Cities Coalition for Justice, and a grand jury resister targeted by the FBI for her international solidarity work. Jess is also a lesbian mom, who lives just blocks from where Renee Good was killed.
