Raag Gaud Malhar is a very popular Raag as it is very impressive and melodious. It is among the oldest raags from the Malhar family, it even predates Miyan Malhar. The Raag is also called Gaud by some musicians. This Raag is a combination of Gaud Ang, Shuddha Malhar Ang and Bilawal Ang. Like many compound raags, Gaud Malhar has defined its independent evolutionary path, giving rise to several versions of it being in circulation. In recent years, however, there has been a tendency towards the homogenisation and standardisation of the raag form.
There are legends and myths about raag Gaud Malhar, that it is so majestic, it has the power to conjure the rain, when sung with great passion, devotion and dedication.

Ulhas Kashalkar is a Hindustani classical vocalist, born in 14 January 1955 into a musical family in Maharashtra. He was initiated into music by his father ​Shri. Nagesh Dattatreya Kashalkar​, an advocate and a musicologist. While ​his music remains deep rooted in tradition, the listeners revel in the experience of listening to a new gayaki. A torchbearer of our pristine tradition, he continues to enthral and take his audiences on an ecstatic journey through his music.
