"Regular Joe" Beats Developer with Elegant Formula Solution! (Can You spot the Mistake?)

In today's episode of 'Q & A with Matt K!', Matt was challenged to craft a report that would produce a graph comparing "Year to Date" results with the same period from the previous year! (For example, January - May 2024 vs January - May 2023).

Matt actually came up with a few solutions (before Chris offered his one, less clunky solution). The whole process involved:

04:31 Creating the relevant data in the org so we'd have something to test with.

13:10 Accomplishing a similar solution with filters for individual months (not ideal).

14:55 Tackling the Year-to-Date aspect of the question. Beginning with creating formula fields on the records.

15:17 A Formula for Month Name to let us quickly filter in the months we want (across years in report).

17:35 A Formula for "Is YTD Any Year" to check today's date against previous years' dates on a record.

19:33 Matt freezes (supposedly unintentionally) and gives us a glimpse of just how unedited and unrehearsed these calls are.
