Former Aston Villa Gareth Barry midfielder has revealed he attempted to force through a move to Liverpool in the summer of 2008, before eventually signing for Manchester City the following year.

Barry reveals conversations with then Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez, whose comments about deploying him in a number of positions unnerved the Villa captain about making a potential switch to Anfield.
