Suring Schools superintendet Kelly Casper made her initial appearance Wednesday on false imprisonment charges related to searches of students for vaping materials.

While searching for the vaping devices, Casper allegedly illegally confined the students. The district attorney previously had ruled the searches themselves were not illegal conduct.

Raelene Helminger is the parent of one of the students.

"The psychological and emotional damage that this woman has done to these children is unspeakable," Helminger said.

Casper's Attorney Nick Gansner says Casper has been a dedicated public servant for her entire career.
