ROSSMOOR - A 72-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after his two adult step-grandchildren were shot Thursday night, officials said.
Investigators suspect Michael Fredrick Molle shot his step-grandson and step-grandaughter during a domestic dispute at their Rossmoor home, said Lt. Jeff Hallock of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
Sheriff’s officials, however, declined to say what led to the shooting.
Deputies were called to the 2800 block of Tucker Lane at about 8:20 p.m. after someone heard a woman screaming, Hallock said.
When deputies arrived, they found the two siblings suffering from gunshot wounds, he said.
Both siblings were taken to nearby hospitals. The man was treated and released. The woman, however, suffered life-threatening injuries and remained hospitalized Friday, Hallock said. Both siblings are in their early 20s, Hallock said.
Neighbor Glenn Geoffroy said he noticed what seemed to be a party at Molle’s home before police and paramedics were called to the cul-de-sac neighborhood.
“I saw all these young people walking around the street,” he said.
Moments later, he heard sirens and the sound of police and paramedics in his neighborhood, Geoffroy said. His neighbor told him he heard gunshots.
Molle, who listed his occupation as a retiree, was booked into Men’s Central Jail in lieu of $500,000 bail, according to arrest logs.
A handgun believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered by deputies.
Molle is expected to appear in court Monday.
