GI Tags 2020

Geographical Indication helps the producers to differentiate their products from competing products in the market.
It enables the producers to build a reputation and goodwill around their products.
In India, as a member of WTO, enacted the GI Goods Act, 1999 has come into force with effect from 15th September 2003.
The first GI tag was given to Darjeeling Tea in 2004.
GI Registry is located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
