Post-Purchase impressions of a 1974 Volvo 164

As of September 28, 2022, this 164E is FOR SALE right now in Boston, MA, for $5,000.
It was purchased by us on Hemmings classifieds from Tennessee in May 2021. We bought it to restore but since went with a 1969 model year for the different interior and exterior styling of the early cars.

Volvo 164E 1974 B30 Fuel injected, Automatic transmission.

Features:
Wheels powdercoated silver.
Paint and body good
123 Distributor
Accessory fog lights
Water pump, fuel pump, fuel filter, ignition components, fuel pressure regulator all appear recently replaced
D-Jet wiring looks good, injectors not broken or cracked.
Interior is sun worn but largely complete. Aftermarket radio and speakers.

Some rust poking through the bottom of the driver floor pan, and the front lifting mount spots are rusty. Otherwise no bad rot. Surface and corner spots throughout, as seen in videos. Rockers and door hinges undamaged by rust. Very solid candidate for restoration or daily driving.
Needs: Rear u-joint, rear shock lower bushings, one front ball joint, one steering tie rod end has play.
Power steering pump leak. Brakes squeal. I did not check air conditioning. Exhaust system seems recently replaced, but sounds like a leak in the rear muffler area

Upper rear inner fender well arch plates are rust-free. Engine runs very well, transmission shifts well.
