Israel Strikes Iran State Media Buildings in Tehran

Israel struck buildings belonging to an Iranian state-owned media company in Tehran during what appeared to be a live broadcast, after the Israeli military said residents and workers in that part of the capital should leave. Israel also said it killed four senior Iranian intelligence officials in a strike on the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ headquarters.

President Trump is leaving the G-7 summit early to deal with the crisis; it comes after he took to social media to say everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran. The White House said the U.S. isn’t joining Israel’s attacks on Iran.

Iran has signaled through Arab intermediaries that it is seeking an end to the hostilities and a resumption of talks over its nuclear program. Israel’s dayslong assault on Iran’s nuclear program, senior leadership and infrastructure has left Tehran battered and given Israel air superiority over parts of the country.

What else to know:

Iran said at least 224 civilians have been killed in Israeli attacks. Israel said its death toll from Iranian strikes had risen to 24 since the beginning of the confrontation.

A second U.S. carrier strike group is heading to the Middle East, and the U.S. is sending more ships to help Israel defend against Iranian missiles.

Israel said its air force has destroyed about one-third of Iran’s surface-to-surface missile launchers.

Tehran residents reported long lines at gas stations and traffic jams as people rushed to flee the city, anticipating more attacks.
