This video is designed for new quilters who may be perplexed by inset seams. I learned by watching others. I'm still learning, but because I'm still newish, I remember my frustrations. Accordingly, my goals in this video are to help you understand the anatomy of an inset seam--demonstrated through our mitered corner project--and give you proven strategies to mark and sew precisely so that you will have perfect results every time.

I have lots of repetition here, not to bore you to death, but to reinforce the points.

Remember that quilting is a skill that is cultivated through understanding the techniques and practicing those techniques until they become habituated into our visual, mental and physical/muscle memory. Our first efforts ground us in what we need to do better, whether it is cutting straighter, piecing better, sewing straighter with the right seam allowance consistently, and pressing appropriately.

Embrace your failures as teaching moments. Each time you fail, you allow yourself to fail better the next time, and the next until you build proficiency and then mastery. When things don't work out, you must dissect why. (Hence all the detail in this video). If you avoid the harder techniques, you do yourself a disservice. If you practice them, you'll have joyful results.
