The Bow River: Friend and Teacher | Frank Frigo | TEDxCalgary

Описание к видео The Bow River: Friend and Teacher | Frank Frigo | TEDxCalgary

Like other cities that have a significant river running through them, Calgary's Bow River both supports the city of almost 1.5 people living around it and poses a flooding threat during extreme climate cycles, as happened in 2013.

Drawing from his long experience working with the Bow River as a water engineer, Frank sees this world-famous river as both a friend and a teacher to be respected as it makes its way from its vast mountain watershed through other systems to the Arctic Ocean. Frank is a water resources engineer and applied hydrologist with the City of Calgary, focused on water supply, dam and reservoir design and operations, floodplain management, flood forecasting, stormwater, water quality and riparian management.

For the last 16 of his 26 years environmental and water resources career Frank has gotten to "really know the Bow" studying the Bow River and its watershed, tributaries, water quality and habitat. The Bow has taught Frank about flood, drought, climate shift and ultimately about resilience. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
