It’s official: we are closing on our new farmhouse on September 12! I can’t even begin to describe how excited and nervous I am. I’m going to be taking lead on this project and while my husband and Granddad will be supporting me, I’m the one who is ultimately responsible for how we restore this place.

To give you some background, this is a 1900s farmhouse that’s was owned previously by three generations of the same family. It had some work that needs to be done (think: a corner is suspiciously sinking into the ground) but we want to maintain as much of its historic style and material as possible.

It also has no paddocks, barns, or fences of any kind, which means I need to figure out the layout, materials, and structures required to house rescue dogs, livestock guardian dogs, goats, geese, chickens, ducks, and turkeys. Believe me when I say that I just learned what an auger is.

This will be the kind of DIY series you haven’t seen before: I’m not a professional contractor showing you how to; I’m a layman learning with you. I’d imagine there will be laughter and tears (there have been a lot of both already).
