(27 Nov 2017) On this busy Cyber Monday, one of Amazon's hectic distribution centers shows how it manages to keep up with the holiday rush.
“We have hired more than 120,000 seasonal associates across the United States in order to be able to supplement that additional capacity during these busy holiday shopping months," said Amazon spokesperson Lori Torgerson.
Shoppers are expected to spend $6.6 billion on Cyber Monday, up more than 16 percent from a year ago, according to Adobe Analytics, the research arm of software maker Adobe.
And more people will be picking up their phones to shop: Web traffic from smartphones and tablets is expected to top desktop computers for the first time this year, Adobe said.
For a company like Amazon, from the moment the customer places their order to when it gets out the door, it all comes down to precise planning.
As a customer places an order, the picker will then go and grab that item from the bins which are actually on Amazon robotics to make that process even quicker.
"It will be placed in a yellow tote. That tote then will be taken over to the packing station where it will get packed in an Amazon box and then back onto the conveyor belt and off to the trucks," said Torgerson
