Surgical cap with adjustable ties by Ana Leal (translated by Margy Torres)
Conversion to inches is approximate. The whole numbers of the metric system are very easy to follow and more consistent. However as requested here is the pattern and instructions in English.

Creating the pattern and cutting
Crown: She shows one quadrant of the crown at 10 cm (4”) by 12 cm (4-3/4”) because that is all that fits on printer paper. The final shape is an oval and the size is 20 cm (8”) side to side by 24 cm (9-1/2”) front to back.

Brim:
She used a rotary cutter and mat to get the brim sized easily. However it can be drawn out and cut with a scissor. The brim size is 70 cm (27-1/2”) by 25 cm (9-3/4”).

Ties:
2 pieces of 37 cm (14-1/2”) by 4 cm (1-3/4”).

Sewing instructions:
1. Make the TIES using the ½ and ½ folding method. Sew the long edge; can leave one end open but finish one end by tucking it in and back stitching, since this will be seen.
2. Zig-zag along the cut edges of the two short ends of the BRIM piece to prevent fraying.
3. Place the BRIM, right sides together, sew from the top down 4 cm (1-3/4”), and back tack. Sew again from the bottom up 4 cm (1-3/4”) and back tack. This leaves a 21 cm (about 8”) opening.
4. Press open the seam, including the open area.
5. Bring the lower edge up to the upper edge, starting with the seam that was just created in step 4. Fold the entire BRIM so that the right side is facing both toward you and the interior, creating its own lining. Iron the lower edge and the open slit which is the back.
6. Place the ties at the lower edge through the opening in the back. She places the unfinished edge of the tie at approximately 10 cm. (4”). Do the same on the opposite side with the other tie. Sew the ends of the tie in place. She later explains that the placement is individualized so for a smaller head the end of the tie can be placed at just more than 10 cm or more (4” or more).
7. Create a casing for the tie that does not sew the tie down at any point so that it remains free to be pulled and adjust.
8. She continues the sewing line of the casing around the brim.
9. Topstitch at the opening in the back to the top edge.
10. Long stitch along the upper edge so that it does not separate as you attach the crown.

Crown
1. Find the front center of the crown and pin right sides together, all around the top. If the crown is slightly larger you might need to do a small pleat or ease the material. Finished!
