Often, we get so focussed on the main project that we’re working on in the shop that we forget about those extra pieces of leather that are cut away.
Depending on the crafter, extra leather tends to get tossed in a box, tote, or bag labeled “scrap leather”. Some people even throw this away! It starts by throwing away very small pieces and then grows to larger pieces. All of those small pieces of leather can get turned projects and money.
In our shop, we build a lot of belts and are left with lots of extra ends cut from belt blanks. In this video I walk through the entire process from design to finished product, taking one of these scraps and turning it into something that can be sold.
