‘Trashy Tuesday’s Community’ Marina event

Описание к видео ‘Trashy Tuesday’s Community’ Marina event

Throughout our journey we have been overwhelmed by the amount of plastic we have come across, from large plastic crates floating in the Atlantic, huge bundled up fishing nets, large plastic cans and thousands of plastic bags!

We have tried to retrieve as much as we can, even sometimes resorting to turning Mokara around to pick these items up. We’ve often sailed for miles with bags of stinking plastic piled up in our dingy waiting to be offloaded at our next port.

We’ve realised that although every little helps, our efforts are not going to make the change the planet needs! We need to do more!

Our aim is to create a community of ocean saviours. As we started this project on a Tuesday whilst in lockdown in a marina we have named the community “Trashy Tuesday”. We will encourage our community of cruisers and land dwellers to challenge each other in collecting the most plastic in one collection. Our helpers will send in their images and collected figures which we will post on our social media pages and community website page, we will also add their figures to our total amount collected.

We have our first Marina signed up to the ‘Trashy Tuesday Community’ and yesterday, we held their first event.
49.5kg of plastic and rubbish was removed so we now have 1925kg to go to meet our 2020kg target by the end of the year. A massive thank you to everyone involved.

We are so grateful that Marina Santa Marta are going to be our first marina to get involved and coordinate clean-ups with boaters and cruisers that use their marina on a regular basis! We want to try and get as many marinas as possible to get involved as this will make a huge difference to the oceans and the marina water quality. .

We are currently looking for companies or individuals to get involved in our important campaign by Sponsoring us or making a donation.

Help us by making a contribution through our Patreon page. Be the first one to support us to help us kick off this campaign.

If you would like your business to do something great for the oceans as part of your social responsibility, there are many ways to get involved. Support of our important campaign is very much appreciated. We can provide you with an awesome sustainability story showing how you were part of this campaign from the start, access to our media and marketing assets, full commercial use of our logos and inclusion to our social platforms.

We use the donations for advertising, communications, marketing, bags, litter pickers, rewards, awards and whatever else we may need to achieve the target of removing 2020kg’s of rubbish from the ocean by the end of the year. We will encounter different situations throughout our travels. Some areas may not be able to process the rubbish we collect so we may need to arrange for this to be collected and taken to a suitable location if we are unable to do this ourselves.

If you are free on any day not just Tuesday’s and have access to a beach or waterway, we would like to challenge you to gather as many cruisers, children, family members, friends or people around you to spend just an hour of picking up as much plastic as you can. Obviously the more people you can rally together the more plastic you can collect.

Please send us pictures and the final combined weight of your final collection to [email protected]

All pictures will be posted on Instagram @sailingmokara_trashy_tuesday as well as our website. .
We can’t wait to see what we can achieve together! And we can’t wait to see the fun you’ve had making an incredible difference!

Thank you from our oceans!

Thank you syncbeatmusic.com for the music
